WVDA’s Executive Division houses the office of the West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture and provides policy and direction for the rest of the agency. The Division is also the nerve center for a variety of ongoing regulatory and development programs, along with a host of special projects. West Virginia is one of about a dozen states where the Commissioner of Agriculture is a statewide elected office.
What's Going On
One of Executive Division’s special projects involves promotion, construction, and productive use of high tunnels, plastic-covered, unheated structures that can greatly extend produce growing seasons. The WVDA is constructing high tunnels on state-controlled farmlands and in select school systems. They will serve as educational tools for students and as job incubators for military veterans and other interested West Virginians.
