Label review is a free service offered by WVDA Business Development Division. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires food products to be properly labeled before they can be sold. West Virginia also has labeling requirements for food that will be sold exclusively at West Virginia farmers markets, as well as cottage food labeling guidelines. Contact the WVDA prior to label development and staff will provide guidance through the process. Labels can then be submitted for WVDA review. Label review is optional for most products, but is required for foods such as sauces, salsas, fermented foods, pickled foods and other acidified foods. WVDA does not review bath and body labels, but can provide guidance documents.
