Southern West Virginia Classic Car Association Donates to WVDA Vets to Agriculture Program

1/4/2018

Charleston, WV -  Commissioner of Agriculture Kent Leonhardt thanked the Southern WV Classic Car Association for their $1,000 donation to the West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s (WVDA) Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture Program on Wednesday, January 3rd. The association presented the check to Commissioner Leonhardt at his Capitol office.

“I have nothing but gratitude for the members of the Southern WV Classic Car Association,” said Leonhardt. “The Vets to Ag program has zero state funding, so we rely completely on donations. It is groups like this that make a world of difference for our veterans.”

The Southern WV Classic Car Association raised a total of $2,000 for veteran programs. In addition to the donation to the WVDA, a donation of $500 each was made to the West Virginia Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the West Virginia Chapter of the Farmer Veteran Coalition.

“Our goal is to help our veterans transition from the battlefield to new careers. Agriculture provides opportunities where veterans can thrive,” said WVDA Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture Assistant Director James McCormick. “We appreciate the donation from the association. This will help us reach even more veterans.”

The WVDA Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture Program was established in 2014. The program itself operates on zero state funding. In addition, it can only accept up $7,500 in private donations each fiscal year. Commissioner Leonhardt plans on asking the Legislature and the Governor to fund the program this upcoming session.
